On 2 December 2020, the New Zealand Government announced the Carbon Neutral Government Programme which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025.

Qualmark assesses and recognises businesses that are delivering a sustainable experience. Businesses are awarded a bronze, silver or gold award depending on their performance against the Sustainable Tourism Business criteria.
